Federal Government Commences Annual School Census

Federal Government has formally commenced the 2018/2019 Annual School Census (ASC) for schools in Nigeria’s capital city – Abuja and the 36 states of the federation.

Adamu Adamu, the Federal Government Minister of Education who flagged off the exercise, said the ASC notified the simultaneous commencement of the enumeration of all schools, pupils, teachers and facilities in the Primary and Secondary Schools.

He said that mobile technology would be used for the exercise to obtain reliable and time data from remote schools throughout the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

He said the data obtained from the census would be used for national educational planning and research and reporting and decision-making.

The minister urged all who would be involved in the exercise to do it with the required diligence so as to consolidate on the achievements recorded within the last two years.

He reiterated on the call on all stakeholders in the sector especially the school heads who are in charge of the school records to drive the process of the enumeration to success using the approved Mobile Technology Innovation.

He said it was his desire to produce credible data after the completion of the exercise for proper planning, management and supervision of Nigeria System of Education for improved learning and productivity.

He confirmed that the Federal Government has conducted a geo-positioning of schools in some selected states to get the exact number of schools in the states which would help in getting the exact and accurate. Accurate data would validate the ASC data.

He hinted that primary and secondary schools in Taraba, Ondo, Imo, Kogi and Edo States had been mapped out positioned by the staff of the ministry for online accessibility of the information. Thereafter, every other state will key into the exercise to ensure it covers the entire nation.
