Education News: 16 children and 2 staff members test positive of coronavirus in a crèche school in Ireland

3 children and 2 staff members in a crèche in Meath also tested positive of COVID-19

The Creche chief executive said that he had closed another room to avoid further spread

16 children and 2 staff members were confirmed to have tested positive of coronavirus disease in a crèche school in Ireland and was closed according to reports. The infected children and the staff are currently self-isolating and awaiting results after being told they were a close contact.

The confirmed cases of the COVID-19 infection are children and the staff members at Oakmount Creche near the UCD campus, South Dublin, Ireland.

The 16 children and 2 staff members were considered to be close contacts of the staff member who contracted the COVID-19 virus.

According to the Irish Times, the management of the Oakmount Creche informed parents about the development and assured them that the worker had not been in the childcare center since the previous Wednesday.

Earlier this week, three children who attend a well-known creche in Meath tested positive for coronavirus. The disturbing news came after two staff members at the same crèche facility also tested positive, taking the tally of the number of infection cases to 5.

After the tests of the two staff members, 3 out of 11 children came out positive; the other 8 were negative. The three children who tested positive are all siblings and are yet to show any symptoms. Some children in another pod at the creche are waiting for results.

The Creche’s chief executive said that he had closed another room at the facility, and the parents of the children in all other rooms which remain open have been informed of the developments and had followed all guidelines and advice from all the relevant bodies.
