The global employment is plummeting

The United Nations UN Labour agency, ILO estimated that 200 million fully employed workers might lose their jobs in the next 3 months – a speedily escalating economic effect of COVID-19 pandemic on global employment far worse than the 2008-2009 economic crisis.

The warning came not quite long after the International Labour Organization (ILO) predicted that 25 million jobs were threatened globally by the new coronavirus pandemic.

To ensure the nation’s economy bounces back from an unprecedented slump or recession if that is the case, many countries, especially developing economies should, first of all, strive to provide basic infrastructure for its teeming population.

No substantial economic growth and development take place in any place without basic infrastructures and amenities – consistent power supply; efficient transport and communication system; educational facilities and resources for learning; good health care system, among others.

Encouraging graduates to start their own businesses

Employ extra graduates as teachers and science research workers for sustainable future growth and development

In order to help curtail a high rate of unemployment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, national governments should employ extra graduates as teachers.

The teaching profession is one of the career areas that has been facing manpower shortages even before coronavirus pandemic. Others are in medical and high-technology savvy professions.

Encouraging and employing newly-graduated and graduating college and university students to take up teaching jobs will help reduce the unemployment rate, boost the GDP, and help the economy recover faster.

State governors should employ more workers

States and regional governments enjoy autonomy to an extent in most countries of the world and can contribute immeasurable to national growth and development.

State government authorities should strive to employ more of newly-graduated and graduating college and university students to work in state-owned firms, enterprises, agencies, departments and ministries to help reduce the national rate of employment and recover the coronavirus pandemic-shrunk economy quicker.

Provide subsidies for small businesses

In order to help them survive, national governments should provide subsidies for small businesses as countries face growing pressure to restart the sagging economy and tackle the associated high rate of unemployment.
